I pull off my PCV breather tube to check how gunky it is... and the damn thing snaps. Now I have no choice but to embark upon the 6+ hour replacement job that I do not own the right tools for.

I have to remove the intake manifold to get access. This being a modern car, there’s all sorts of mechanical and electrical gubbins that need to be removed from the manifold to free it from the car. Book value for a trained technician is like 4-5 hours. For me, it’ll likely be 2 days of work and I can’t get by without a car for that long.

Old plastic is almost up there with rust with things that suck for working on cars. I think almost every clip I’ve taken off my ‘96 F150 has had at least one part break off no matter how gentle I think I’m being.

Good plan to do it right, though it sounds like a pain in the... pooper.

For a temporary fix you could probably slip some high shrink heatshink on there and seal it back up.

Ayone around you carry 1-1/2 or 2" heatshribk? Looks like that would fit, then just heat it up, do a couple layers and hopefully there’s no leakage. I could send you some but it would take a a few days to show up.

Ohhh I did that on my old E46. I didn’t remove the intake manifold. I was VERY happy to see updated parts on my current E46 when I got it. If I had to do it again, I’d go with a catch can setup, that’s been pretty well sorted out by now I think.

You do NOT have to remove the intake manifold to replace the oil seperator and all of the hoses. Honestly I’ve never even checked the repair manual, but I’ve done that repair so many times, and I’ve never once removed the manifold.

You also have the option to just replace that hose, which is one of the easiest. To replace that hose all you need to do is remove the air intake boot and then you’ve got access.

If you give me the last 7 of the VIN I can get you a part number.
